i chose a 400 page book! perhaps not my wisest decision of all time, though the least wise one was perhaps starting this project three days before it was due!

i read it the first time through in 2 sittings, and then went back through n commented on it chapter by chapter! i have many things to say about this silly little dragon book

anyway! it's a bit of a long read so actual reading here!

Biographical Info!

chris d'lacey was born in 1954 in malta, though he moved to london while young. In his childhood, he was not especially known as a writer, being told by a teacher once that he "didn't have a creative thought in [his] head."

he did dabble in poetry, to little success. however, he has been practicing songwriting since the age of 17, and continues to the day. he keeps his songwriting a personal hobby for the time, despite the fact he insists he's a better songwriter than bookwriter.

in college, he studied the sciences, eventually getting a job operating a microscope at leicester college. it wasn't until he was 32 that he truly started writing his first book. he had bought a toy polar bear as a gift for his wife, and attempted to write a small story to accompany it.

he became very interested in researching polar bears, and within two years the "small" story he had written had become a 250,000 word novel about polar bears. it was then he decided to properly start writing and attempting to become published.

the first children's book he got published was titled fly, cherokee, fly, a book about a young boy raising an injured pigeon. this was based on his own personal experience, and was followed up by pawnee warrior.

he wrote several more children's books, before starting one of his most well known series, called the last dragon. the first book in this series was called the fire within, which is the book i chose to closely examine for my report!

in this series there were six more books, called icefire, fire star, the fire eternal, dark fire, fire world, the fire ascending, and rain and fire. these were released between 2001, with the fire within, and 2013, with the fire ascending.
